She received her education at Bishop Cotton Girl's High School and pursued biology and zoology at Bangalore University, graduating in the field of zoology in 1973. Additionally, Biocon ventured into the extraction of isinglass, a substance used for clarifying beer. Remarkably, within a year, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw achieved significant success, with Biocon becoming the pioneering company to successfully export these enzymes to the United States and various European countries.

Biocon Limited is presently positioned as one of the foremost biotech enterprises in India. The current estimated wealth of Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, the company's founder, stands at approximately Rs 21,000 crore. Boasting the biggest facility for producing insulin in all of Asia, Biocon is situated in Malaysia. This year, in February, Biocon Biologics successfully sealed an agreement to procure Viatris' biosimilars division for a substantial sum of USD 3.3 billion. In terms of market value, Biocon is currently valued at roughly Rs 30,000 crore.
