If there's no rain, plants become drier. This can make fires spread faster. This happened in 2006-07 when there was half as much rain from January to April. The wildfires destroyed over 10 times the area.

The snow this year is lower by 25% compared to the average from 2004-21. An Athens Observatory researcher, Stavros Dafis, confirms this. It's even lower than the 2006-07 snow coverage. April had some rain, but it may not be enough to make up for the earlier low precipitation.
