In the realm of digital art, the nonfungible token (NFT) space has experienced significant expansion in the past few years. However, alongside this growth, there have also been dramatic drops in the market value of collectible NFTs. Initially, collectors were able to generate satisfactory returns on their investments. However, the recent excessive production of PFP collectibles (NFTs that can be used as profile pictures on social media) has caused a decline in the volatility of NFT prices. Surprisingly, despite these fluctuations, people are still engaging in NFT trades worth millions of dollars every day. In fact, according to data compiled by CryptoSlam, approximately $118 million worth of NFT trades occurred in the final week of June.

Undoubtedly, the NFT art field is still thriving. The real query lies in determining the aspects of digital art that enthusiasts will prioritize in 2023.

NFTs remain an incredible means of forming worldwide communities centered around artists and music genres. NFTs serve a dual purpose, acting not just as authentication certificates for one's unique profile picture (PFP), but also as a remarkable platform for artistic expression. They possess an inherent versatility that enables the exploration of bold concepts and narratives. Among the numerous pioneering artists in this field, there are a handful who have been exploring groundbreaking technologies and crafting distinctive aesthetics that defy conventional boundaries.

Sara Ludy, a native of California, delves into the mysterious side of nature through her unique artistic approach. Her work has been showcased in prestigious venues like the Whitney Museum of American Art, where she employs various mediums including painting, artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), video, and websites to bring her vision to life. In her latest project, titled Daance Dange Daice, Sara collaborates with Refraction, a cultural production-focused DAO DAO, and the non-profit organization Rhizome, which has been at the forefront of digital art for nearly three decades. This venture marks Sara's first venture into the realm of AI.

Entangled Others, a creative partnership between Sofia Crespo from Argentina and Feileacan McCormick from Norway, harnesses the power of advanced technologies like neural networks, AI image generation, 3D modeling, and quantum computing to manifest their imaginative concepts. Through their innovative approach, Entangled Others delves into the realm of diverse life forms, intertwining art and technology in a poetic synergy. Their exceptional work took the spotlight during a fundraising event for the renowned Buffalo AKG Art Museum in 2022, leading to the acquisition of their pieces that served as a bridge between the NFT realm and the more conventional art space.

Stevie P, who resides in Brooklyn, has a strong foundation in the field of economics. His artwork delves into typical online scams and fictional investment schemes, creating a unique and comedic experience for his viewers. With advanced coding skills, Stevie meticulously develops his projects, thoroughly examining and implementing smart contracts (unmodifiable programs inherent in blockchain technology) as integral components of his art. This highly prolific artist consistently unveils new works almost monthly, leaving his devoted audience (whom he fondly refers to as his "business associates") craving for more. His most recent collaboration with the prominent generative art platform, Art Blocks, is titled Dopamine Machines (2023), aiming to explore the language utilized in internet advertisements.

Tanya Cruz, Hana Omori, and Isabel Ramos, the creators of Keiken, are photographed by Callum Leo Hughes and are graciously featured by Daata and the artists.

Many people appreciate the magnificent landscapes and imaginary realms found in video games, but only a select few are aware of the artistic potential these games hold. Keiken, a collective based in Berlin and London, is known for their unique approach to art, merging performance, video games, and digital art. They dedicate a significant amount of time to creating their art within the confines of a gaming engine. Keiken's creations transport us to speculative worlds that encourage us to ponder a brighter future. Recently, they collaborated with digital art publishers Daata and employed the use of artificial intelligence to release their latest NFT artwork, titled "Wisdoms for Neknel." This piece invites individuals to explore a world where wisdom holds value as a form of currency.

The artist Jonas Lund, originally from Sweden but now based in Berlin, has been experimenting with blockchain technology for at least five years. Lund is constantly pushing the boundaries of art, exploring various forms such as sculpture, painting, AI, smart contracts, and even tapestry-making. With a touch of humor, Lund invites the audience to delve into the world of emerging technologies alongside him. In 2018, Lund introduced a token called JLT, which allows token holders to have a say in decisions that impact his artistic practice. Presently, Lund is preparing to launch his first Signature project on the up and coming platform Wild.xyz, titled Most Accidents Happen at Home (2023).

This group of artists from New York City and Brooklyn has been portraying the rebellious culture of the internet since 2011. They express themselves through various mediums, such as music, parties, digital art, and even have their own online marketplace. The members of this collective, led by Dev Moore and Jawn Reyes under the guidance of founder Mark Sabb, are always evolving and finding new ways to change our perception of reality. Their most recent exciting collaboration was with the prestigious fashion brand Givenchy. Creative Director Matthew Williams explained in an interview with Complex that this collaboration was a deliberate move to create streetwear that resembles contemporary art in the digital age.

NFTs have enabled improved valuation and visibility of digital artwork overall, resulting in a thriving industry during the last five years. The aforementioned artists and groups exemplify that NFTs encompass more than just comical JPEGs. They also demonstrate the genuine worth of experimentation within the metaverse.
