New Range Rover EV To Challenge Porsche Macan

Range Rover Velar

Jaguar Land Rover is changing its cars to electric ones. They want to make an electric Range Rover Velar. This car will compete against the Porsche Macan EV.

Last year, the automaker announced plans to change the Halewood facility. Ford opened it before. The facility is near Liverpool. We knew they planned to build three electric vehicles there.

The Range Rover Discovery Sport and Evoque SUVs from Halewood plant will be electric. The third one was a mystery until March. JLR gave confirmation about it.

Autocar says an electric Velar SUV is coming. A company update confirmed the news. This will add to the popular models already offered.

The Velar will be on JLR's new EMA platform. The EMA platform is for EVs and hybrids in 2021. It's for Land Rover models but the Velar, Evoque, and Discovery Sport will be fully electric.

Range Rover's New Electric Velar SUV Launch

The upcoming EMA architecture by JLR is going to be released in 2024. There's not much said about the details yet, but JLR revealed some features. These features include flexible battery structure and 800V fast charging capabilities.

The electric Velar will compete with the Porsche Macan EV next year. It will use the Audi co-developed 800V PPE platform. This platform will make it the sportiest model in its segment.

Nick Collins, who manages the vehicle program, stated that the Velar needs to meet the standards of a real Range Rover: it should have great off-road capabilities, be convenient to use and show class.

The report said the car company claims the EMA electric motors will be very efficient, providing 4-4.5 miles per kWh. They're also the strongest in their category. That means the electric Velar car will do better than old gas cars when it comes to range and off-road travel.

JLR said the EMA platform is going through engineering approval. They plan to start using it soon. This news came out in July.

Jaguar will be an all-electric car brand by 2025 as part of the company's "Reimagine" strategy. Other brands will be changed too, and by the end of the decade, all cars will be electric. JLR is now splitting up its car models into four groups: Jaguar, Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery. This is to help the company make more money and be more famous.

The Velar was released in 2017 to rival the Porsche Macan. The name will continue into the electric era.

The Land Rover model sold badly last year. But it was still better than the Discovery. Lots of fancy electric SUVs are on the way from companies like Porsche and Mercedes. They'll be out within two years.
