The initial video presentation of the day at our Artemis ILS Asia 2023 event, which took place in Singapore on July 13th 2023, showcased the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) delivering a gracious opening speech to over 200 participants. Cheng Khai Lim, Executive Director of the Financial Markets Development Department at MAS, emphasized the significance of enhancing the organization and negotiation abilities in the Asia area as Singapore works towards simplifying its insurance-linked securities (ILS) regulatory system.
He talked about the potential for growth in the insurance-linked securities (ILS) markets worldwide and specifically in the Asian region.
Specifically, he emphasized the necessity for substantial insurance coverage from both conventional and alternative sources, like the financial markets, in order to enhance safeguards against increasing damages caused by environmental disasters in the area.
Lim stated that the Singaporean regulatory body, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), is fully dedicated to providing assistance for the development of ILS structuring capabilities and the expansion of ILS issuance in Singapore.
The Singaporean Monetary Authority (MAS) is committed to extending its ILS grant scheme for an additional three years, until the conclusion of 2025, to further bolster the issuance of catastrophe bonds and insurance-linked securities in the Asia and Pacific area.
