Jordan's Exports Surge In H1 2023: JD4 Bln
Exports from Jordan maintained a positive trajectory in the first half of 2023, as they increased with multiple trading partners and economic unions. The total export value for this period amounted to approximately JD4.198 billion, surpassing the previous year's figure of JD4.104 billion.
Based on the latest information released by the Department of Statistics, the nations within the Greater Arab Free Trade Zone emerged as the leading trade allies and economic groups in the initial six months of this year. They accounted for a substantial portion, specifically 17.4%, of the total national exports during this period.
The worth of goods and services exported by the nation to countries within the Arab Free Trade Zone rose in the initial six months of the current year, reaching JD1.460 billion. This marks an increase from JD1.244 billion. The surge can be attributed to a boost in the quantity of products originating from Jordan that were sent to the Saudi market, with the total amounting to approximately JD452 million.
During the initial half of this year, national exports conducted under the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) recorded a growth of 1.8 percent. The total value of these exports reached approximately JD1.011 billion, surpassing the previous figure of JD993 million. This increase was primarily attributed to the rise in Jordanian exports to the Canadian market, which amounted to JD45 million.
Based on the provided statistics, the exports of the country to European Union nations experienced a significant growth of 12.9 percent in the initial six months of this year. The total value of these exports amounted to JD201 million, which is an increase from the previous year's JD178 million during the same period. This growth is primarily attributed to the surge in the quantity of Jordanian exports to Spain, reaching JD49 million.
The amount of goods exported to the free zone saw a rise, reaching JD197 million. This led to a 2.9 percent increase in national exports to other economic blocs in the period of January-June 2023, totaling JD422 million. This figure is higher than the JD410 million recorded during the same period in the previous year.
According to the latest statistics, the numbers regarding international exports between Jordan and non-Arab Asian countries in the first six months of this present year indicated a total value of JD1.104 billion. This figure reflects a decrease of 13.7 percent when compared to the JD1.279 billion achieved during the same period last year. The decline can primarily be attributed to a reduction in Jordan's export volume to the Indian market, which amounted to JD745 million.
