Trung An Hi-tech Agriculture recently finalized a deal in the middle of June to export a hefty amount of rice, specifically 17,000 tons, to South Korea. The agreed price per ton stands at $674. The general director of Trung An expressed satisfaction with this achievement and highlighted that this year alone, the company has secured three significant contracts in this market.

"This year, the cost of rice is quite favorable. The majority of agreements have been finalized with prices ranging between $600 to $1,500 per ton," Binh revealed. "Our ST fragrant rice is being shipped abroad to the European Union at a rate of $1,250 per ton."

Vietnam's rice with a 5 percent broken rate is currently being sold in the global market for $508 per metric ton, reaching its highest price in the past two years.

By the conclusion of June, Vietnam had successfully shipped off rice valued at $2.3 billion, reflecting a substantial increase of 34.7 percent compared to the corresponding timeframe from the previous year. This remarkable achievement signifies an all-time high for the country. Vietnam's progress is commendable as they approach their goal of reaching a noteworthy export turnover of $4 billion for the current year.

Exports of vegetables and fruits have also experienced a surge. Lychees from Vietnam have become available in 30 different global markets and are being sold in supermarkets at prices ranging from VND200,000-800,000. Additionally, durian has successfully penetrated the Chinese market.

Vegetables have achieved a remarkable accomplishment by generating a revenue of $2.75 billion in the initial half of the year, experiencing a significant growth of 64.2 percent. Phung Duc Tien, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, anticipates that vegetable exports will surpass $5 billion in revenue for the current year.

Over the past six years, the cumulative revenue from exporting agricultural products amounted to $24.59 billion, experiencing an 11.1 percent decline. However, this decrease was less significant compared to previous periods, indicating a gradual improvement in the sector's performance.

Seven agricultural commodities have been included in the list of exported goods surpassing a billion dollars in turnover. These include coffee, natural rubber, rice, vegetables and fruits, cashew nuts, shrimp, and timber products.

Nguyen Thi Huong, the top executive at the General Statistics Office (GSO), stated that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) witnessed a growth of 3.72 percent during the initial six months of the current year. Among these numbers, the service industry demonstrated a growth rate of 6.33 percent, while agriculture, forestry, and seafood showed a growth rate of 3.07 percent.

Huong emphasized that the primary driving force behind the recent six-month expansion was the service industry, wherein tourism stood out as a positive area.

The field of tourism lured in 5.6 million visitors from abroad, marking a substantial increase of 13.5 times compared to the previous year. Additionally, there was a significant influx of 64 million locals exploring their own country.

According to calculations, the tourism sector witnessed a commendable recovery of 66 percent in comparison to pre-pandemic levels of 2019, with a remarkable total income of VND343.1 trillion originating from enthusiastic explorers during the initial half of the year.

Vietnam continued to witness a significant influx of tourists from South Korea, maintaining its status as the largest source market. Approximately 1.6 million visitors, comprising 28 percent of all international travelers, hailed from South Korea. China ranked second in terms of tourist arrivals. Starting from March 15, Vietnam started welcoming Chinese tour groups and has already hosted around 557,000 Chinese visitors. The third spot in the arrivals chart was occupied by the United States, with a total of 374,000 American travelers.

Five markets experienced an increase in the number of tourists, surpassing the figures recorded in 2019: Cambodia (338 percent), India (236 percent), Laos (117 percent), Thailand (108.4 percent), and Singapore (107.4 percent). Additionally, two markets were on the verge of recovering their previous statistics, namely the US (95 percent) and Australia (92 percent).

Based on the data provided by the Tourism Information Center, there was a noticeable surge in online searches for Vietnam's tourism between mid-March and early June. This increase ranged from 10 to 25 percent, which positioned Vietnam as the seventh most searched destination globally. It is worth noting that among Southeast Asian nations, Vietnam stood out as the sole representative in this esteemed group. The primary countries showing keen interest in exploring Vietnam's tourism offerings were the United States, Japan, Australia, India, South Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Germany, and France. These nations play a vital role in Vietnam's tourism market.

Looking ahead to the coming half-year period

Government Office Chief Tran Van Son stated that there was a significant rise in the disbursement of public investment, totaling VND216 trillion, a growth of 27.75 percent (equivalent to VND65 trillion) during the initial half of 2022.

As per Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong, it is achievable to reach the objective of allocating 95 percent of the total planned capital (VND711 trillion) by the year-end.

According to Dinh Trong Thinh, a well-regarded economist, it is anticipated that the GDP growth rate for 2023 could range between 6.3-6.7 percent and the inflation rate between 3.3-3.5 percent. In order to achieve a growth rate of 6.7-7.3 percent, it will be crucial for businesses to reclaim their traditional markets, explore new export markets, make the most of government-led demand incentive initiatives, and capitalize on the ongoing decline in petroleum prices.
