Massive Drop in Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT Valuation: A Market Analysis

Non-fungible token

In a predictable but delayed change in the market, the worth of Bored Ape Yacht Club's famous NFT collection plummeted to an astonishingly low level, reflecting a noticeable decline in the overall NFT market.

BAYC Struggles: Market In Flux

On the previous Sunday, the lowest price of the BAYC NFT collection dropped to less than 30 Ethereum (ETH), which is approximately $58,700. This significant decrease in value is quite different from the consistent increase the club experienced since October 2021. The unfortunate decline mirrors the overall negative impact seen in the NFT market and the prolonged period of low cryptocurrency prices affecting the value of Ethereum, which is the foundation for numerous NFT collections.

This change in luck is not limited to the BAYC. Prominent NFT collections such as MoonBirds, Azuki, and Doodles have also experienced market turbulence, with their value declining in recent times. This indicates a decline across the entire industry rather than a single occurrence.

BAYC's Market Trajectory: Analyzing The Numbers

Based on information from CoinGecko, a data analytics platform, the minimum price for Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) experienced a sharp drop to a concerning value of 27.4 ETH, equivalent to approximately $53,000, on the evening of last Sunday. Although there was a slight improvement in the market shortly after, this setback remains notable. It is the first instance since October 2021 that the minimum price for BAYC fell below 30 ETH.

During its peak, the lowest price for BAYC reached an impressive 153.7 ETH, which translates to approximately $430,000 in April 2022. But if we fast forward to today, that same lowest price has been reduced by half, now standing at 64 ETH or $126,000 at the beginning of this month. Nevertheless, there is a small spark of optimism.

BAYC's Trading Volume: A Confusing Situation

OpenSea has recorded a significant decline of 38% in Bored Ape Yacht Club's (BAYC) trading activity within the last day. Nevertheless, BAYC maintains an impressive trading volume of 1.2 million ETH, equivalent to a whopping $2.4 billion. This firmly establishes BAYC as the top-ranking NFT collection in terms of sales volume, as verified by CryptoSlam's data.

The starting price of BAYC dropped significantly in April and hit its lowest point in five months, equivalent to 55.6 ETH or approximately $110,000. Throughout this time, a well-known but anonymous NFT enthusiast called Franklin sold 27 of his Apes, adding to the already prevailing pessimism in the market.

Although the recent decline of the Bored Ape Yacht Club is quite different from its previous success, the slight recovery shows the unpredictable and ever-changing nature of the NFT market. Only the passage of time will reveal whether BAYC, as well as the broader NFT market, can recover from this downward trend.
