Proton X90 SUV Now Available From RM123,800

Suzuki X-90

Proton X90 is being sold in Malaysia after a media preview in March and first drive last month. Prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched the car earlier this evening.

The new car is made by Geely. It's called the Haoyue but is known as the Okavango in some places like the Philippines. This is Geely's third X series car after the X70 and X50. There are four types of this new car and you can choose to have six or seven seats.

You can choose from four variants: Standard, Executive, Premium and Flagship. Three variants (Standard, Executive and Premium) have seven seats with a 2-3-2 configuration. The Flagship is the only six-seat variant with a 2-2-2 layout and second-row captain seats like the Exora Prime.

We've shown you the X90 before, but let's go over it again. It's an SUV that competes with cars like the Mazda CX-8, Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento.

Haoyue has a new grille on her look.

The X90 is bigger than the X70. It's longer and wider. The wheelbase is also longer. The X90 is 4,835 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,785 mm tall. The X70 is smaller.

The new car is called Haoyue. It looks a lot like the old Haoyue. The only differences are the grille and fog lamp surrounds. The grille has chrome pins coming out of the Proton logo. The fog lamp surrounds are black instead of chrome.

The car headlights have full LED units. They are not the same as the Haoyue/Okavango's adaptive LED projector. The car's LED units are lower-spec full LED reflectors. The design has solid-type LED daytime running lights. They are presented in an L shape. The headlights also have turn signals. The turn signals light up in a sequence.

The back of the X90 is the same as the original car. The new Haoyue has a different back, but the X90 doesn't. The wheels on the X90 are from the update. The nicer X90 versions (Premium and Flagship) have fancy 19-inch wheels with two colors. They have good tires, too. They're Continental EcoContact 6s and are size 235/50. The Standard and Executive versions have 18-inch wheels with 225/55 tires.

We're shifting towards mild-hybrid technology and changing the suspension at the back.

The X90 uses a 1.5L three-cylinder turbocharged GDI engine. It's comparable to the one on the X50 Flagship and newer X70 models. It has a 48V mild-hybrid system. This system combines six different components for a better driving experience. These components are the belt-starter generator (BSG), DC-DC converter, lithium-ion battery, battery management system, recuperation braking system, and the hybrid module control system.

The mild-hybrid system adds more power. Output is now 190 PS and 300 Nm. That's 13 PS and 45 Nm more than before. The BSG improves acceleration. Standing start is up to 10% better and passing acceleration up to 15%. It also cuts CO2 emissions by up to 13%. All this is compared to the 1.5 litre engine in the base X70.

The X70 MC has a mill made by Proton in Tanjung Malim. It's matched with their seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Power goes to the front wheels. You'll see "48V EMS" logos on the mirrors. These ID the X90 and stand for electric motor synergy.

The Haoyue has two rear suspension options: torsion beam and multi-link. The X90 uses the multi-link suspension for better driving and more comfort. Proton tuned the suspension for Malaysia's roads.

The inside of the car looks good. It has a lot of equipment and technology. The exterior styling is sleek and modern. It looks nice. The engine is powerful and efficient, with good acceleration and fuel economy. It works well. The ride is comfortable and smooth, making it easy to drive. It's a pleasant experience. Overall, the car is a good choice for those who want style, technology, and performance. It's a great option.

The Haoyue's interior is like the exterior, with only two changes. The layout has switched to right-hand drive and the steering wheel boss cover has a Proton logo. For cargo space, there's 257 litres with the third row seats up and 2,050 litres with the second and third rows folded down.

The X90 comes with fabric seats, a reverse camera, and dual-zone air-con. There's independent AC at the back and vents on the roof for all rows. Plus, there's a G-Clean system with N95 filter and ioniser.

The car has a 10-inch digital instrument panel on the Executive onwards model. The Standard model has an analogue meter cluster. The infotainment touchscreen is 12.3 inches with a 1920 x 720 pixel display resolution. The system runs on an ACO Tech ATLAS OS with a better processor. It has 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. The navigation system only supports ATLAS' native maps and does not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

There are charging points in all three rows for mobile devices. All together, there are seven points. You can use USB Type-A, Type-C connections, or wireless charging (only on the Premium model). The wireless charger is in the front, and there are two Type A ports below the AC controls. There's also a USB port behind the rear view mirror for dash cams. The middle row has a Type A and Type C port, and the third row has two Type A ports.

The car has two handy functions. One is called proximity auto unlock. It knows when the key is getting close and will open the doors. The other function is walk-away auto lock. It locks the doors once you've walked away from the car.

The Executive version has cool ventilated seats in the front. The driver's seat can be powered in six different ways. The seats will have leatherette upholstery. It also has a smart powered tailgate, 3D display with a 360-degree camera, and a system for monitoring tyre pressure.

The Premium is better than the previous model. It has 19-inch wheels and phone charging that doesn't need wires. The ADAS safety features are useful, including new things like warnings for stuff behind you, collision warnings, and updates about traffic signs. The car can park itself, and the seats now use nicer leather. The front passenger seat can move in four ways using power.

The X90 Flagship has a different seating layout. It can seat six people. It also has a big sunroof. The front passenger seat can slide forward with a "Boss" switch. This gives more legroom for the second row passenger.

The Flagship has four ventilated seats. The second-row captain seats are like front seats with armrests. They can be adjusted manually and reclined individually.

The X90 has six colour choices. These are Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey (for all four models), Cinnamon Brown, Ruby Red (only for Executive up), and Marine Blue (only for Premium and Flagship).
