Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to engage in an online discussion with Elon Musk, the CEO of prominent electric vehicle company Tesla, tomorrow.

When questioned by the journalists regarding the gathering, Anwar responded with the word "tomorrow".

He addressed the media following a discussion session with law enforcement agencies at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre today.

Anwar was the first to announce last Friday that he planned to have a meeting with Musk this week. Their objective was to discuss potential avenues for the renowned electric vehicle company to expand its investments in Malaysia.

Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz announced that his department had given the green light to Tesla's request to bring battery electric vehicles (BEV) into Malaysia.

Tengku Zafrul mentioned that Tesla plans to set up a main office in Malaysia, launch their service centers, and establish their network of supercharger stations.

At present, the closest service center authorized by Tesla can be found in Singapore. Those participating in the Greentech leasing program have been resending their vehicles to Hong Kong for substantial repairs and maintenance.

In the meantime, an economic expert posits that the encounter between the creator and chief executive officer of Tesla Inc and the head of government would set off a series of events in the country's quest to establish itself as a leading center for electric vehicles (EVs) in the area.

Yeah Kim Leng, an economics professor at Sunway University, pointed out that a productive conversation between the worldwide electric vehicle (EV) powerhouse and the leader of Malaysia would also result in additional promises that could positively impact the Malaysian economy as a whole. - Bernama
